Report Generation
* In Plain English
Schedules for generating and distributing automated reports and email digests.
* Scheduling Guide
Report generation schedules are typically timed to deliver results before the start of the business day — a 0 6 * * 1-5 schedule ensures the Monday–Friday morning report is ready before anyone opens their laptop. The schedule needs to account for the time the upstream data pipeline takes to complete: if the data warehouse finishes loading at 5 AM, scheduling the report job at 5:05 AM is a race condition. Add a buffer of 30–60 minutes and build in a data-freshness check at the start of the report job. For weekly digests, Monday morning delivery is conventional but Friday afternoon delivery gives teams a summary heading into the weekend — choose based on how the report is used. Always test that the report job handles empty result sets gracefully rather than sending a blank or erroring email.
